Young families represent 28.6% of Camden households, making it one of Australia’s fastest-growing family areas. From 11 to 17 May, Camden Council will celebrate that growth with National Families Week — free activities spanning three libraries with multiple daily sessions.
The week-long festival runs across Camden, Narellan and Oran Park libraries. Families can drop into sensory play sessions, themed storytimes, and craft workshops. Family yoga concludes the program on Sunday 17 May from 2:30-4pm at Oran Park Library.
Camden Mayor Therese Fedeli said the celebration recognises families as the community’s foundation. “Our families are often our biggest blessings — the reason we work so hard, the reason we are our best selves and our biggest sources of love and comfort,” she said.
The Creative Kids Competition extends beyond the main week, accepting entries until 25 May. Children aged four to 14 can submit art, poetry and short stories through the extended deadline. Prizes will be awarded across age categories.
Some activities require advance booking through camdenkids.com.au, particularly popular sessions like family yoga which have capacity limits. The booking system ensures guaranteed spots for families who register early.
Camden Council did not make library staff available for additional comment beyond the official program announcement.
