The Art Gallery of NSW will run a 3-hour bus tour on Friday 3 July 2026, linking four solo exhibitions across Surry Hills, Waterloo and Zetland in a single curated afternoon.
The tour departs at 10am from the front steps of Naala Nura, the Gallery’s original south building. It offers Sydneysiders a way to visit commercial galleries without driving, parking or planning separate trips. Tickets are $50 for AGNSW members and $65 for non-members. Bookings are essential and close before the day.
First stop is Darren Knight Gallery in Surry Hills, where Maria Kontis presents pastel works drawn directly from Albert Tucker’s photographic archive. The exhibition has previously shown at Melbourne’s Heide Museum of Art. Next is Sullivan+Strumpf in Waterloo, featuring Marion Abraham’s “One Minute to Midnight,” oil paintings that fuse bucolic traditions with contemporary figures from Tasmania.
In Zetland the bus calls at PALAS to see Nick Collerson, a 2026 Archibald finalist whose work draws on meditation and Classical Greek philosophy. The tour ends at Velvet Lobster for Joel Arthur’s intimate garden-scale landscapes, which both engage and subvert grand landscape traditions.
The tour runs regardless of weather. Participants should bring water and wear suitable footwear. No walk-up tickets will be sold. Bookings must be made in advance by calling 02 9225 1878 or via the Gallery’s ticket platform.
AGNSW members get the best value at $50, while non-members pay $65. The bus handles all transport and provides expert commentary, turning a suburban gallery crawl into a single-ticket experience.
It is not the Gallery’s first Art Bus outing. A 2019 series focused on Brett Whiteley’s legacy and shuttled art lovers between multiple sites. This edition shifts to contemporary solo shows by living artists, including an Archibald finalist, and covers suburbs rarely linked by a single afternoon itinerary.
For anyone who has ever wanted to explore Sydney’s commercial gallery scene without plotting a cross-town driving route, the three-hour loop on 3 July is a single ticket to four new perspectives.
