Anh Do’s The Happiest Refugee Live will play Camden Civic Centre on 11 August, the first high-profile comedy booking at the venue since its $9.9 million transformation was completed in October 2025.
The show anchors a new live entertainment program announced on 28 July that brings together tribute concerts, family performances and community events. For residents of the Macarthur region, it means big-name acts no longer require a drive to the inner city.
“It’s fantastic to see such a diverse range of high-quality performances and events being hosted right here in Camden,” said Camden Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli. “Our beautiful new venue continues to attract outstanding performers while providing residents with the opportunity to enjoy great entertainment close to home, supporting our local businesses and helping to create a vibrant town centre.”
The redevelopment addressed long-standing limitations in the heavily used community building. Started in August 2024 and finished 14 months later, the project delivered a new entrance off John Street, upgraded acoustics, back-of-house facilities, toilets, stormwater systems, a recording studio and new outdoor spaces for multi-purpose use.
The August program is particularly dense. On 7 August The Great Elvis Spectacular kicks things off, followed by the INXS tribute LIVE BABY LIVE on 8 August. After Anh Do on 11 August, The Ultimate Eagles Show plays on 15 August and Celebrating the Music of COUNTDOWN revives the 1970s on 21 August.
Later shows include Aussie to the Bone on 25 September, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience on 9 October, a Camden Comedy Showcase on 13 November, and children’s act Pevan & Sarah on 25 November. With several August shows already showing strong demand, the council urges early tickets at camdenciviccentre.com.au/events. Waiting until the week of the performance means missing out.
For locals weighing a night out, the Civic Centre now offers a genuine alternative to larger Sydney theatres. A family can see a tribute to the Eagles or share a laugh at stand-up without a two-hour round trip. And the surrounding Camden town centre, with its cafes and heritage main street, turns a show into an evening out.

The venue’s new recording studio and acoustics also mean it can host a wider range of performances than before 2025. What was once a tired public building is now a multi-purpose hub that the council is filling month by month, with bookings open for more acts through the end of the year.
