Camden Council endorsed the Draft Camden Social and Cultural Infrastructure Framework at its Ordinary Meeting on 14 July, clearing the way for public feedback on the LGA’s first comprehensive 20-year plan for community spaces.

The roadmap responds to one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities, where new housing estates have outpaced the supply of gathering places, libraries and sporting facilities. More than 300 residents contributed to the evidence base during earlier consultation, and the broader community is now invited to have its say via the Your Voice Camden platform when exhibition opens in the coming weeks.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the plan reflected a proactive approach to community building. “As one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities, Camden is planning not just for more homes, but for the places that bring people together and help communities thrive,” she said. “Libraries, community centres, sporting facilities and cultural spaces all play an important role in bringing people together and supporting healthy, connected communities. These are the things that help places feel like homes, spaces everyone can go to, enjoy, have beautiful experiences and make special memories.”

The framework, endorsed by the council, will now be published for public comment on Your Voice Camden.

The draft plan covers community centres, libraries, cultural spaces and sporting facilities. It is not limited to new housing estates — residents in established suburbs like Narellan and Camden South are also encouraged to provide input. With the public exhibition likely to run for a limited number of weeks, signing up early at yourvoice.camden.nsw.gov.au is the best way to ensure you do not miss the submission window.

This is the first time Camden Council has brought all social and cultural infrastructure planning into a single evidence-based document, building directly on the views of more than 300 people gathered in a 2025 engagement survey. The framework will guide investment advocacy and delivery for two decades.

Council’s analysis also highlights the scale of pressure on the area. At least five new primary schools and five new high schools are identified as needed to keep pace with growth, underscoring the infrastructure gap that the framework aims to address.

“We’re taking a proactive approach by planning for the future now, ensuring the infrastructure our community needs will keep pace with the growth we’re experiencing,” Cr Fedeli said. For a community that added thousands of new homes over the past decade, the framework represents a commitment that gathering places will not be left to catch up.
