Construction on two upgraded playgrounds in Chiswick and Abbotsford will begin in mid-July 2026, the City of Canada Bay Council has confirmed.
The works will deliver an in-ground trampoline, inclusive swings and a fully enclosed fence at Henry Lawson Park, and a teepee, balance trail and shade sail at Chiswick Park.
The projects, shaped by community consultations in 2024 and 2025, are part of the council’s Let’s All Play Strategy adopted in November 2019 to improve accessibility and play opportunities across the local government area.
City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said the upgrades reflected the council’s ongoing commitment to creating high-quality public spaces. “Our parks and playgrounds are some of the most important spaces in our community,” Mayor Megna said. “They give families a place to come together, help children stay active and support the healthy, connected lifestyle that makes Canada Bay such a great place to live.”
At Chiswick Park, the new playground will feature a multi-play unit with slides and climbing elements, a swing set, a springer, a balance trail and a teepee. The project also includes a shade sail, new trees and plantings, picnic seating, a water bubbler, park signage and a concrete footpath linking the playground to the existing path network.
At Henry Lawson Park in Abbotsford, the design adds a multi-play unit with slides and climbing, an inclusive swing set, an in-ground trampoline, a rock-climbing structure, a rocker and a cubby house. The playground will be fully enclosed by a new fence, with landscaping, trees and seating throughout. Council said terrain constraints meant the playground could not be relocated within the park, so the upgrade occurs in roughly the same footprint with improved safety and access.
“These upgrades are about creating welcoming, accessible and engaging spaces where children can play, explore and be active,” Mayor Megna said. “Whether it’s new equipment, better shade, seating, landscaping or improved connections through the park, these projects will make a real difference for local families and visitors.”
The current works continue the rollout of the Let’s All Play Strategy, which has already delivered major playground renewals across the municipality. Recent examples include the $5.72 million adventure playground at Five Dock opened in 2024, the Brett Park Adventure Playscape in Drummoyne and upgrades at Bayview Park and Cabarita Park.
