The Abbotsford Juniors Football Club has waited 15 years for significant maintenance at Campbell Park. The club’s fields suffer from sinkage and drainage problems that create safety issues during winter, while the crossing between Campbell and Lysaght Parks remains hazardous in wet conditions.

These concerns form part of a broader consultation on the future of four connected Chiswick foreshore parks. Canada Bay Council’s draft masterplan for Campbell, Allison, Russell, and Lysaght Parks sets out improvements over the next decade, with community feedback closing on 1 March 2026.

The plan addresses key priorities including improved sports facilities, better footpath connections, and expanded play and exercise spaces. Council developed the masterplan using feedback collected from residents and stakeholders in June 2025.

Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said the council remained committed to involving the community in decision making. “The feedback we receive will help shape the future of these beloved foreshore parks in Chiswick,” he said.

The football club has identified urgent infrastructure needs beyond the field maintenance. Abbotsford Juniors believes all-weather fields are essential to support continued demand and growth for football in the area.

The club also highlighted the dangerous crossing between Campbell Park and Lysaght Park, which requires immediate remediation to address significant safety issues during winter periods when conditions become treacherous.

The masterplan forms part of Canada Bay’s broader foreshore access strategy. The four parks will eventually connect as part of a planned “Chiswick Shortcut” linking formal foreshore walks between Abbotsford House, Lysaght Park, and Drummoyne Oval.

Residents and park users can review the draft masterplan and submit feedback through Collaborate Canada Bay before the 1 March deadline. Council officers held limited face-to-face consultations at Campbell Park Community Room and Lysaght Park during February.
