Construction has officially begun on the $3.5 million Stage 1 of The Crest Open Space and Learn to Ride Facility in Gledswood Hills, delivering a purpose-built bicycle course and mountain bike trail to one of Australia’s fastest-growing council areas.
A sod-turning ceremony on 30 July 2026 launched work on the 7.4-hectare first stage of the 41-48 hectare site. The project brings facilities rarely found in local parks to Camden LGA, where the population is forecast to more than double.
Stage 1 includes a dedicated learn-to-ride course, mountain bike trail, shared pathways, kickabout areas, shelters and car parking. Completion is scheduled for early 2027.
Camden Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli said the project had been shaped by extensive community feedback and adopted in the 2021 Master Plan.
“This project has been years in the making, with the Master Plan shaped by extensive community consultation and adopted by Council in 2021,” Cr Fedeli said. “It is incredibly rewarding to now see construction officially commence.”
The $3.5 million project is co-funded by Camden Council and two NSW Government grants: $518,650 from the Metropolitan Greenspace Program for the district-level bicycle facility, and $288,805 from Infrastructure Grants: Sport and Recreation.
The Master Plan was adopted in December 2021, with concept plans exhibited in 2023 and the construction tender awarded in June 2026.

Residents of Gledswood Hills and surrounding Camden suburbs should expect improved local access to cycling and play facilities within walking or short driving distance once construction wraps up. Council has advised the site remains closed during works, and only Stage 1 is under construction now — later stages will follow the master plan.
Driving is the recommended access point for now, with Stage 1 including dedicated car parking. The nearest major road is Gledswood Hills Drive. Shared pathways will eventually support active transport links as the area develops.
Future visits could be combined with other Camden parks or events listed on the council website, though no simultaneous activities are scheduled during the construction period.
Stage 1 construction is expected to finish by early 2027, with the site remaining closed until handover.
