Oran Park Leisure Centre has been named Community Facility of the Year at the Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT Awards of Excellence, after welcoming more than one million visits since opening in October 2024. The award, announced by Camden Council on 26 June, came alongside a second honour: coordinator Marilyn Oliver received the David Aldous Young Emerging Leader Award for her work on community projects.
The dual recognition underscores the rapid growth of Oran Park, one of Australia’s fastest-expanding regions in South West Sydney. The $67 million leisure centre, designed by Warren and Mahoney, opened in October 2024 and has quickly become a hub for health, sport, and social connection across all ages and abilities.
“We’re incredibly proud to add another two awards to Camden Council’s growing list of achievements,” Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli said. “The Oran Park Leisure Centre has quickly become one of our community’s most valued facilities, providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to stay active, connected and healthy.”
Fedeli praised Oliver’s leadership, noting that her work had shaped long-term projects. “Marilyn’s passion, expertise and dedication have helped shape projects that will benefit our community for generations to come,” she said. “It’s a pleasure to have someone of her calibre on Team Camden.”
The facility includes a 50-metre pool, a leisure pool with a Rapid River ride, a toddler pool, basketball courts, a gym, sauna and spa. Its design emphasises accessibility and multi-generational use, making it a drawcard for families and fitness enthusiasts alike.
The centre was previously named New Swim School of the Year at the 2025 Australian Swim Schools Association Awards and has also been recognised at the 2026 Australian Built Environment Awards for sustainability. Those honours further cement its reputation as a leader in community facility design and programming.
With more than a million visits in under two years, the centre serves a region hungry for modern recreation infrastructure. It hosts basketball competitions, group fitness classes, swim lessons, and health and wellness programs that extend well beyond lap swimming. That diversity was a key factor in the Parks and Leisure Australia judging.
As Camden’s population continues to swell, the award confirms that the centre is not just a building but a key piece of social infrastructure for decades to come.
