The Vivid Light Walk stretches an unbroken 6.5 kilometres this year, weaving through Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo and Darling Harbour with 43 installations and projections across Sydney’s harbour precincts.
The free walk runs nightly from 22 May to 13 June from 6pm to 11pm. More than 80 per cent of the program is free to attend.
For visitors planning their route, the expanded footprint means choosing your precinct strategically. The Rocks offers late-night market stalls threading through historic laneways, while Barangaroo Reserve hosts the relocated Vivid Fire Kitchen on the Stargazer Lawn. Darling Harbour stages two drone shows nightly at 7.30pm and 9.30pm from Sunday to Wednesday throughout the festival.
Vivid Sydney Festival Director Brett Sheehy AO said the 2026 edition marks a significant expansion. “For 2026 we are expanding our program into new artforms including aerial performance, day-time public art, theatre and dance. These join our vast Vivid Light, Music, Minds and Food offerings.”
The festival celebrates its 16th year as Australia’s largest festival of light, music, ideas and food. This edition includes a daytime program trial that, if successful, could see Vivid Sydney transition into a 24-hour festival by 2027.
Barangaroo Reserve features Molecule of Light, a 23-metre-tall laser installation by British artist Chris Levine. It’s the tallest structure ever featured at Vivid Sydney. The meteorite at its centre emits a 528hz tone believed to have healing properties on the Solfeggio scale.
Vivid Fire Kitchen brings open-fire cooking demonstrations and chef collaborations to the waterfront at its new Barangaroo location. Culinary greats including Mark Best, Luke Mangan, Sharon Salloum, and Annita Potter will run sizzling sessions alongside food personalities like Julie Goodwin and Adriano Zumbo.
The Rocks’ much-loved Night Picnic under the Bridge returns with city views. Guests who purchase a Vivid picnic from participating vendors receive a complimentary limited-edition Darling Quarter insulated bag while stocks last.
Crowds thin significantly between Monday and Wednesday, offering breathing room around popular installations. The wider promenade around Barangaroo usually provides more space to move compared with Circular Quay, making it the better choice on busy weekend nights.
