Currans Hill Suburb Guide – Camden’s Affordable Family Suburb with Parks and Practicality

Currans Hill is a compact residential suburb in the Camden LGA, sitting about 2.5 kilometres west of Camden town centre and forming part of the broader cluster of family suburbs around Narellan. It is a predominantly owner-occupier suburb built for families, with a strong trades and blue-collar working population, affordable entry-level house prices for the south-west corridor and a laid-back outer-suburban feel. The suburb shares boundaries with Narellan Vale to the north, Smeaton Grange to the north-east and Mount Annan to the east.

Currans Hill is a suburb that does what it says: houses, parks and families. Streets are quiet, lots are modest, and the suburb has a settled, unpretentious feel that reflects its working community. Around 14 parks cover nearly 12% of the suburb’s 3.6 square kilometres, giving children and families a generous share of green space for a suburb of this size and density.

Retail and services are drawn from nearby Narellan Town Centre, which anchors the broader cluster of Camden suburbs with supermarkets, specialty shops and dining. Currans Hill itself has local services and schools within comfortable reach.

Minutes away by car is Mount Annan and the adjacent Australian Botanic Garden, making for an easy-to-access nature day.

Currans Hill was gazetted as a suburb on 14 December 1979, with its name honouring Michael Curran, an early resident of the district. The locality is about 2.5 kilometres west of Budgelly Hill and 2.5 kilometres north-west of Kenny Trig Station, placing it in land that was long used for grazing before the residential expansion of the Camden corridor began in the late twentieth century. Development accelerated through the 1980s and 1990s as Camden attracted families priced out of closer-in parts of south-western Sydney.

Currans Hill has no train station. The nearest rail connection is Narellan, which at present is not served by train but has a planned extension to the South West Rail Link. Bus services operate through the suburb, connecting residents to Campbelltown Station and Narellan Town Centre. Narellan Road is the main arterial route providing access to the Hume Highway and the broader motorway network.

Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek opens in October 2026. While Currans Hill is not immediately adjacent to the airport precinct, the road network improvements associated with the airport will improve access to employment centres across western Sydney.

Currans Hill’s median house price of around $994,000 makes it one of the more affordable entry points among Camden’s established residential suburbs. Annual capital growth of around 8.6% has been solid without being speculative. The median weekly rent is $685 for houses and $570 for units, with gross yields of 3.65% and 4.18% respectively, both competitive for the south-west corridor. Owner-occupation sits at 71% of dwellings.

Currans Hill’s population of around 5,541 is stable, with modest growth of 4.4% between 2016 and 2021. The dominant age group is 0 to 9 years, which is an unmistakable signal: this is a suburb filling with young children, driven by young families who are establishing themselves. Households are primarily couples with children, and most residents work in trades occupations, giving the suburb a practical, hands-on community character. Mortgage repayments in the $1,800 to $2,399 monthly range are the norm, consistent with the suburb’s affordable price point.

Currans Hill is sensible, unpretentious and genuinely family-oriented. It will not make the shortlist for buyers who want village character or cafe culture, but for families who need space, parks, a sub-$1 million entry point and a straightforward suburban life near Camden, it delivers without fuss.
